Working Principle; Normally, when you draw your bow across
the strings, the strings begin to vibrate. This vibration causes the violin
bridge to vibrate as well. Consequently, this vibration spreads from the
bridge, via the soundpost, to the body, all its components, and into the
soundbox of the violin. The metal mute is mounted by pressing it down onto the
bridge like an adjuster/peg, after which it minimizes the vibration of the
bridge. Thus, the propagation of sound vibrations across the violin is
interfered with.
